Evaluating historic and modern optical techniques for monitoring phytoplankton biomass in the Atlantic Ocean

چکیده

Traditional measurements of the Secchi depth ( z SD ) and Forel-Ule colour were collected alongside modern radiometric ocean clarity colour, in-situ chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl-a), on four Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) cruises. These data used to evaluate historic optical techniques for monitoring Chl-a, remote-sensing algorithms. Historic broadly consistent with current understanding, inversely related beam diffuse attenuation, positively ratio blue green reflectance euphotic depth. The relationship between AMT was found be in closer agreement historical relationships when using infinite depth, rather than water above disk at half . Over range 0.03-2.95 mg m -3 , Chl-a tightly correlated these variables, explaining highest amount variance (89%), closely followed by (85%) (71-81%, depending scale used). Existing algorithms that predict from variables evaluated, perform well, albeit some systematic differences. Remote sensing good over values (8.5 - 51.8 m, r 2 >0.77, unbiased root mean square differences around 4.5 m), but a slight positive bias (2.0 5.4 m). agreed well >0.68, <1). We investigated impact environmental conditions wind speed estimation propose path forward include effect theory. discuss benefits challenges collecting future directions research. the search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

Significance of bacterial biomass in lakes and the ocean: comparison to phytoplankton biomass and biogeochemical implications

We have synthesized the information on marine and lirnnetic bacterial biomass carbon (BOC) and phytoplankton biomass carbon (PhytoC) to examine the relationships between these major biotic carbon pools. On the basis of 6 limnetic and 6 marine studies we found a good similarity for the correlations of BOC vs PhytoC in both systems although the slope was substantially lower than for sim~lar corre...

Availability of iron and major nutrients for phytoplankton in the northeast Atlantic Ocean

Because of recent findings that Fe is a limiting factor for phytoplankton activity even at relatively high dissolved iron (DFe) concentrations, the potential importance of Fe limitation was revisited in the northeast Atlantic Ocean (39–458N, 17–218W). We report data gathered during deck incubation experiments performed at three stations in February–March 2001 with surface seawater containing DF...

Optical tools for ocean monitoring and research

Requirements for understanding the relationships between ocean color and suspended and dissolved materials within the water column, and a rapidly emerging photonics and materials technology base for performing optical based analytical techniques have generated a diverse offering of commercial sensors and research prototypes that perform optical measurements in water. Through inversion, these to...
